Course Details

How To Get Investors For Your Business explores different methods of finding and raising capital for the new or growing business. The course is structured to provide the student with a wide spectrum of opportunities in seeking venture or risk capital investors. From friends and family to professionally managed venture capital funds, all potential equity partners are reviewed and considered. The student will leave this class with a well organized and practical system for finding the right investors for their business.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of business investment opportunities and outcomes
  2. Understand the difference between equity investors and business partners
  3. Explain the process of determining capital needs for the small business
  4. Understand how to research and contact potential business investors
  5. Access local and internet sources of help and guidance for Small Business Start Ups (including the City of Austin Small Business Development Program)

Business Success Skills Certificate Program

This class is eligible for the Business Success Skills Certificate Program. Participants who complete six classes will receive a framed gold seal Business Success Skills Certificate jointly from both The University of Texas at Austin Professional Development Center and City of Austin Small Business Development Program.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to prepare the student in comprehending various sources of investor financing for a small business and identifying potential investors. This course will help the students analyze their business capital needs and match those needs with credible sources of capital. This process will challenge the students to use their research, planning and forecasting skills, along with strategic thinking, in determining viable investor resources.
