Course Details

Of all the decisions business owners make, none impacts the effectiveness of their business more profoundly than hiring. Research on interviewing techniques indicates that the consistent application of well developed hiring criteria leads to higher productivity, reduced turnover, and increased employee job satisfaction. Hire the Right Person the First Time uses a systematic method of applying objective criteria to the hiring process. Based on the foundation that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior, participants develop structured, objective interview and assessment techniques.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between behaviors and traits
  2. Develop structured interviewing techniques
  3. Create a defendable hiring process
  4. Examine the legal environment of hiring

Business Success Skills Certificate Program

This class is eligible for the Business Success Skills Certificate Program. Participants who complete six classes will receive a framed gold seal Business Success Skills Certificate jointly from both The University of Texas at Austin Professional Development Center and City of Austin Small Business Development Program.

Rationale

Understanding how to interview a potential employee and hire for the right fit is necessary for any small business owner. This course will enable students to apply learned concepts in identifying and applying behavioral-based hiring strategies for their own business.
