DSHS Healthy Texas Babies

The Texas Department of State Health Services presents Healthy Texas Babies: Reducing Non Medically-Indicated Deliveries before 39 Weeks and Involving Patients’ Partners in their Perinatal Healthcare.

The morning session of this full-day training will first focus on the new Medicaid policy enacted in October 2011 that changed reimbursement for deliveries that occur before the 39th week of gestation. The training will review the new policy, explain the medical reasoning for the change and also provide communication guidance to participants to use in discussions with their clients who express a desire for delivery before 39 weeks.

In the afternoon, participants will learn about the importance of having an involved partner before, during and after delivery for both the mother’s and baby’s health. The session will provide practical, evidence-based steps to better involve your client’s partner in her healthcare from the beginning as well as ways to encourage her to decrease her stress by developing an effective support system.
