Real Estate Salesperson Prelicensing Program

Interested in selling and owning properties? Want an occupation that allows you to set your own work schedule? Then you should pursue your Texas Real Estate License. The Professional Development Center in partnership with Dearborn Publishing provides real estate courses online and through correspondence. This 180-hour program offers the opportunity to earn the educational hours required by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) for those wanting to become licensed realtors for the State of Texas.

This program offers individual courses or select from any of our packaged programs for added convenience and additional savings.

TREC Provider

TREC Update

Effective September 2, 2014, the Texas Real Estate Commission and the Texas Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board examinations will be administered by Pearson VUE. For more information visit www.trec.state.tx.us

TREC Requirements

As a licensed Texas real estate agent, you will be able to help clients buy, sell, and rent properties. But you need to obtain your license first! To become a Texas real estate agent, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of Texas.
  • Provide proof of completion in 180 credit hours of required education - easily complete your education with our 180-Hour Real Estate Salesperson Prelicensing Basic Package
  • File and pay for the Application for Inactive Salesperson License with TREC.
  • Obtain Sponsorship. Before you can practice as a licensed salesperson you must arrange for a Texas real estate broker holding an active license to sponsor you as a salesperson.
  • Pass the Texas Real Estate License Exam with a score of 70% or better.

What to Expect in Your Real Estate Exam!

You have taken all the required coursework, you have tested and retested on the QBank. Now find out all you need to know about the Pearson Vue Exam. The exam is given electronically and divided into two sections, National and State. The test will consist of 110 questions with a total of 2.5 hours to complete the exam. 80 Questions will be National with 1.45 hours to complete, while 30 questions will be State with 45 minutes to complete. You will know if you have passed the exam before you leave the testing center.

If you have submitted your sponsorship form already, your license will be mailed to your sponsoring broker within 7-10 days of passing the exam. Otherwise, you will be considered "inactive" until you choose a broker and submit the Request to Sponsor Salesperson Applicant form.
