Documentary Photography: A First Look
This class welcomes all who have a desire to become acquainted with documentary photography. No prior knowledge is required, but a strong desire to learn and photograph is necessary. The class will begin with an overview of basic photographic principles, such as exposure control, contrast control, compositional issues and basic digital workflow options. Students will then discuss a short-term photographic project to shoot during the term of the class and will receive supportive and encouraging critiques from the instructor and students. The instructor will lead a field trip during the course of the class to demonstrate various ways of dealing with subjects, securing model releases and incorporating environmental elements into a potential project.
Requirements: Please bring your 35mm or digital SLR (with manual mode) to class. Point and Shoot digital cameras are not suitable.
